Tweaking the Double Plopper Buzzbait

Spread the love

One of the more exciting new baits introduced at ICAST 2016 was the Double Plopper buzzbait designed by Larry Dahlberg and produced by the folks at River2Sea…

Double Plopper Bass

Two unique features of this bait involve the blade configuration of this new style buzzbait,

  1. Each of the blades mimic the original Whopper Plopper but reduced in size &
  2. The plastic materials used to produce the blades are buoyant allowing the Double Plopper to float when the retrieve is stopped…

Most anglers using the bait from the outset indicate it runs true on a slow retrieve right out of the package but will list to one side when the retrieve is increased. This doesn’t seem like a deal breaker to me since I rarely burn buzzbaits across the surface but given the price (~$17/bait) some folks balk because of this issue…

For those wishing to “burn the bait”, there still maybe hope via a tweak to the Double Plopper as designer Larry Dahlberg explains in the following video…

I think there is one other take-away from this video everyone can learn from…

Though many baits work as intended right out of the package sometimes a tweak here and there might enable retrieves/presentations potentially extending the usefulness of the lure…

Of course making those tweaks on a bait costing > $15 each maybe something many bass anglers will ponder awhile since the outcome is never completely certain 🙂
